Review of Breathwrk App

I have been thinking about doing a review of Breathwrk for a long time, but for some reason…have not gotten around to it. With that said, I can say that I have been using this app for years now, and love it. This post is not sponsored, I just think the app needs a shout out! This is the 2nd mindfulness app that I have fallen in love with, and offers a totally different experience to the Tapping Solution which I talked about previously.

How is this app different?

There are many things that I love about this app, and the main one is that it makes meditation/breathwork easy and accessible. It makes the meditations short (though there are longer ones available), and lets you choose what you are looking for (such as sleep, calm, energy). Though the meditations are breath focused, they are able to create a lot of diversity in options, and make it fun with different images and ways of communicating the work. My favorite image is whenever they have the monkey cartoon where his belly gets bigger when the air goes in and smaller when he exhales. So cute!

The barrier to get started is so little because there are no long explanations or wordy intros. There is more information for some of the meditations, explaining the biology behind it and more, but you don’t need that to get started. You also don’t need to pay. For years now, I have been using the free version, and gotten so much out of it! If you pay for the full version, you have access to more options, but I personally have not even needed that yet.

I was not a meditation person…

As I have said in other posts, I was one of the many who say meditation and mindfulness practices are not for me. I distinctly remember being in grad school doing a long meditation in class, and feeling like I was so distracted. I remember other students shared experiences of talking to their inner child after, and I was just thinking about lunch. What I have learned from trying different meditations and apps though, is that one version is not for everyone. It’s like trying vanilla ice cream and saying all ice cream is not for you! I am so glad I kept trying, because trying different mindfulness practices has really improved my own ability to regulate difficult emotions, and I want that for my clients and for all of you too!

audition prep

So check out Breathwrk and see if it helps you too! I believe it could be a useful tool for anyone, but in particular with my clients, it can be part of your pre-audition prep, before a big meeting, or even to recover after an amazing gig. For artists and creatives, having a great mindfulness practice can only enhance your work. So give it a try and see if can be a useful tool for you too!
